5 Things to Do if you’re headed to….Downtown Sound in Millennium Park

Phosphorescent takes the stage for a free concert in Millennium Park tonight.

It’s no secret that Millennium Park is the place to be on Monday nights this summer: the highly anticipated FREE concert series, Downtown Sound: New Music Mondays, has returned to the park, featuring an eclectic mix of music discoveries. This week’s concert features Phosphorescent, fresh from Cochella, and The Campbell Brothers, masters of the steel guitar.

We asked Ty Tabing, Executive Director of the Chicago Loop Alliance for his own “new discoveries”, hidden gems in the Loop that you may not have heard of yet, to check out on your way to the show:

  • Grab a bite to eat at the fantastic, design-your-own sandwich shop Wich Wich on the pedway at Block 37.

AKIRA at Block 37

Michelle Tan at Block 37

  • Head upstairs and do some shopping! Eileen Fisher is the latest addition to Block 37’s roster of retailers. From Zara to AKIRA, to the retail home of Chicago designer Michelle Tan, you’ll find hip fashion that will keep you looking stylish for all of Chicago’s outdoor concerts this season.

Grab a midday drink at ROOF on TheWit

  • Grab a midday drink at ROOF on the WitHotel. Featuring bars with built-in firepits, and a glass-enclosed, cantilevered lounge perched 27 stories about the city, ROOF’s real draw is its bustling social scene.
  • Be inspired by the newly installed, six story tall GO DO GOOD mural, by artist Kay Rosen, painted in bright yellow and black on the North wall of the Stevens Building (17 N. State St.) The Chicago Loop Alliance and United Way hope the colorful project will inspire 100,000 good deeds.

Grab a nightcap at Angels & Kings at the Hard Rock Hotel

  • After the concert, have a nightcap at Angels & Kings, on the first floor of the Hard Rock Hotel: this nightspot has a vintage aesthetic, an intimate stage, and delicious cocktails. Relax and enjoy a perfect end to your day.
